The table as a social map
Seat for conversation, access and comfort before geometric symmetry.
All too often, reception table styling prioritizes Instagram perfection over basic human ergonomics. When centerpieces are placed at eye level, guests cannot see across the table; when chairs are jammed together, standing up to visit the restroom knocks over wine glasses.
Keep floral arrangements either low and low-slung (under twelve inches) or elevated high on slender pedestals so sightlines across the table remain completely open. Ensure at least thirty inches of table width per guest so place settings, bread plates, and water glasses have breathing room.
A table that feels comfortable invites guests to linger, chat, and enjoy second glasses of wine long into the night.
