The reference image test
Keep the feeling you love and separate it from the exact object in the photograph.
Couples frequently drown in Pinterest boards, pinning thousands of images of Italian villas and Californian ranches that have zero relevance to a Toronto ballroom or loft. The key to successful visual curation is identifying the emotional core of an image rather than copying its props.
When you look at an image you love, ask yourself: Am I responding to the specific flowers, or to the warm, amber side-lighting? Am I drawn to the vintage chairs, or to the unhurried posture of the guests? Extract the feeling—simplicity, wild organic movement, architectural restraint—and translate that essence to your venue.
This disciplined approach protects your wedding from looking like a pastiche of conflicting trends and allows a cohesive design vision to emerge.
